Mascherano a happy man

Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano says he is more than happy to have joined Liverpool from West Ham and is hoping to forge a long-term future at Anfield.

The 22-year-old endured a nightmare few months at Upton Park before switching to Merseyside on an 18-month loan in January and Mascherano seems to have settled in well with Rafa Benitez's side.

He told the Daily Echo: "I'm very happy here, but we'll have to see what happens about the future.

"At the moment, I'm just concentrating on what needs to be done, making sure that we finish the season strongly.

"Hopefully we can achieve something very important by winning a European title.

"There's still a long way to go and hopefully we'll put in a good performance on Wednesday to make sure we are in the Champions League semi-finals.

"Then next season, we'll see how things are going, but I'm relaxed and very happy with Liverpool."
