Mascherano non-committal over Anfield future

There is a question-mark about Javier Mascherano's future at Liverpool  after the Argentina international midfielder once again refused to commit himself to the club in the long term.

The former West Ham United player was linked with a transfer to Barcelona in the summer and has mentioned many times recently that he would welcome the chance to further his career in Spain.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed that talks have begun with Mascherano over a new contract even though the player still has 18 months left on his current Anfield deal.

"I am playing for Liverpool, I am a Liverpool player and, like the manager says, I have two more years on my contract and don't have to say anything else," said Mascherano.

"I play for Liverpool and will continue to do my best.

"It is not a good season, but everything can change and in May we could be talking about Liverpool winning something."
