Masch: Goals not the priority
17 Mar 2008 - 15:40:51
Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano doesn't expect to embark on a goal frenzy despite opening his account for the club at the weekend.
The Argentina international, who recently agreed a permanent four-and-a-half year contract at Anfield following a loan arrival last season, found the net for the first time in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Reading.
However despite his 20-yard thunderbolt against the Royals, the defensive midfielder isn't expecting the floodgates to now open.
"It was an incredible moment," he told the club's official website.
"I have not scored a goal since I was at River Plate, so to score one for Liverpool - and in front of the Kop as well - was really special.
"I can't really describe the feeling but I know I celebrated like I had gone crazy.
"It would be nice to score more goals but I don't think there are many holding midfielders who score lots of goals.
"In this position you have to play deep and try to keep the balance of the team and that is the most important thing for me.
"I will try to score more goals but I know that I have to do my own job first."
