Marseille handed UEFA charge

Marseille have been charged by UEFA after an object was thrown by one of their fans towards Liverpool's Steven Gerrard during Wednesday's Champions League clash between the two sides.

The incident happened in the first half of Liverpool's 1-0 win at Anfield as Gerrard was preparing to take a corner in front of the visiting fans.

The Reds captain appeared to be hit by a cigarette lighter thrown from a section of Marseille supporters.

The French side will answer the case at a meeting of UEFA's control and disciplinary panel on December 11.

A similar incident occurred when the two sides met at Stade Velodrome in September when Marseille were fined approximately £12,500.
