Manchester United watch Atletico Madrid No 1 David de Gea

Manchester United scouts watched Atletico Madrid's David de Gea again last week as Sir Alex Ferguson continues his hunt for a new goalkeeper. The 20-year-old made three outstanding saves to help Atletico run out 3-0 winners over Malaga to further boost a burgeoning reputation. Atletico insist De Gea is not for sale but would be vulnerable to bids of about  £15million for a player who has welcomed links to United. Safe hands: De Gea leaps above Bayer Leverkusen's Stefan Kiessling in the Europa League Ferguson has already signed Denmark No 1 Anders Lindegaard from Aalesunds but is on the look-out for another keeper after confirming that Edwin van der Sar is expected to retire at the end of the season. United are also watching Schalke's Manuel Neuer, Bayer Leverkusen's Rene Adler, Rangers' Allan McGregor and Liverpool's Pepe Reina. De Gea, an Under 21 international, has been tipped to eventually succeed Iker Casillas for the senior Spain. Real Madrid and Barcelona have also tracked his progress, but he would face greater competition for a start at either of La Liga's giants.  My No 1 mistake!
