Manager reaction - Benitez keeps the faith

Reaction from Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, after the two English sides in Champions League action on Wednesday night enjoyed contrasting fortunes.

Match report - Lyon 1-1 Liverpool

Benitez: "It is difficult for us to qualify, but not impossible. We have to win our game and see what happens with Fiorentina and Lyon. Then we will approach the last game. We are really disappointed because it was a great opportunity for us. We had some chances, but again it was a late goal against Lyon that made a massive difference.

"If you analyse the goal we conceded, we had a lot of players in position and we were not in a bad position. We made a mistake, but not because we were too high or trying to attack. We were trying to control the game, but we couldn't. It is something we have to improve on because it has happened before. When we are winning we have to close the game out and stop teams scoring against us at the end of matches, like Lyon have done in both games against us. We have to learn to keep the ball at times and be stronger in the challenge. But football is like this - sometimes you need luck, and we didn't have it in the end."

Match report - Arsenal 4-1 AZ Alkmaar

Wenger: "Let's keep this attitude and spirit and we can deliver something special. I've said that for a long time and we want to show that. I just want to go from strength to strength.(The players) have a fantastic attitude and great quality and great spirit. I think the team looks more mature, ious when needed and patient.

"Our policy is to produce our own and add players of special quality and Andriy Arshavin and Thomas Vermaelen are good examples of that. I am not scared to spend money but what we want is to buy the players who have the needed quality to strengthen the team.It was a brilliant performance because we dominated our subjects technically, tactically and overall were never under threat. Overall I'm very happy."
