Man United and Liverpool target Shawcross in talks to sign new Stoke deal

Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross has opened negotiations over a new contract at the Britannia Stadium. The England Under-21 centre-back still has two years left on his current deal after signing from Manchester United in 2008 for £1million. But the club are keen for him to extend his stay in light of summer speculation linking him with a return to Old Trafford and reported £5m interest from Liverpool. 'We've started talks but it's a long process,' the 22-year-old told BBC Radio Stoke. 'I'm happy here. My family is happy here and I want to stay. 'These things can take months but there's no rush, I'm not too worried.'
