Liverpool's Potential Best XI for Next Season

08 August 2013 09:16

I'ts been a summer of wholesale changes for Brendan Rodgers side, and it is to get busier with Luis Suarez set to force his way out of Anfield. Some new faces have came in, and Liverpool have been linked with hoards of others that could come in yet. With the new season just around the corner, here is a look at what could potentially be Liverpools strongest eleven.

GK: Simon Migolet:

With Pepe Reina joining Rafa Benitez at Napoli on loan, the Belgian, a £7m signing from Sunderland, will Liverpool's number one. Arguably the best goalkeeper in the Premier League last season.

Defence:

RB: Glen Johnson

CB: Daniel Agger

CB: Kyriakos Papadopoulos

LB: Jose Enrique

Greek Papadopoulos has been touted for a move from Schalke to Liverpool and he would form a great defensive partnership with Daniel Agger, as Martin Skrtel seeks a move away from Anfield. Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique are undisputably Liverpools best right and left backs respectively. A fit again Martin Kelly, a young Andre Wisdom and the experienced Kolo Toure will push for places too, giving Liverpool strength in depth.

Midfield:

DMF: Lucas

CM: Steven Gerrard

AMF: Cristian Eriksen

The evergreen Steven Gerrard will have a vital role to play for Liverpool but key to his performances I believe is the fitness of Brazilian Lucas, his defensive qualities gives Gerrard the invitation to push forward. Young Dane Cristian Eriksen would be a smart buy from Ajax, and if he moves, he could play a vital role for the team. Also expect Jordan Henderson to play a big part for Liverpool, the England u-21 captain was ever improving last season and he will look to push on and make more starts for Liverpool.

Attack:

RW: Daniel Sturridge

ST: Diego Costa

LW: Phillipe Coutinho

With Suarez's departure imminent, Liverpool have bid £21m for Athletico Madrids Diego Costa, and if signed, he will have to carry the goal burden with Daniel Sturridge, who finished last season in fine form. Phillipe Coutinho bamboozled defenders with his trickery after being signed from Inter Milan last January, and he will be one of Liverpools key players in the coming season. New signings Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas will also look to make an impression, the latter is having a fine pre-season. Injury prone Italian Fabio Borini will also look to impress when given the chance.
