Liverpool's Adam out for rest of season

Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam has been ruled out of the remainder of the season after failing to recover from a knee injury, it was confirmed on Thursday.

Adam, 26, who has endured a difficult first season at Anfield following last year's move from Blackpool, was injured in the 3-2 defeat at QPR on March 21.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish said although Adam's injury did not require surgery, it would prevent the Scottish international from possibly forcing his way into the Great Britain Olympic squad.

"There is no operation needed but he won't play this season," said Dalglish.

"And I would think if they had any designs on having him in the Olympics he wouldn't be fit for that either."
