Liverpool tell Juventus to cough up 13.5m for Raul Meireles

ShareLiverpool have told Juventus they will have to pay them ?13.5million for midfielder Raul Meireles after turning down a cash plus player deal involving Felipe Melo from the Italians. Juve offered a lump sum and Brazilian Melo as part of the deal but the Reds are only interested in a straight money deal, according to The Daily Mirror. Liverpool only paid ?10.7m for Meireles less than a 12 months ago after signing him for ?10.7m from Porto. Big hit: Raul Meireles has looked impressive for Liverpool but Kenny Dalglish has to many options in midfield However manager Kenny Dalglish has plenty of options in midfield and has just paid Sunderland ?20m for Jordan Henderson. With Lucas and Steven Gerrard also in the middle, it leaves Meireles surplus to requirements at Anfield along with Christian Poulsen and Alberto Aquilani.Dalglish has so far been unable to offload Poulsen or Aquilani but Meireles would be much easier to cash in on after his impressive second half of last season. No makeweight: Brazilian Felipe Melo (right) has hit at Juventus for trying to use him as as a 'bargaining chip' Juventus will now review their offer and but Melo has insisted he will not be used as a makeweight and accused the Serie A club of 'disrespect'.'Let us say that Juve are not respecting me, or at least that's the impression I get,' he said. I'm not just anyone. I'm not a bargaining chip to be used to reach anybody.'  Liverpool set to go head-to-head with Sunderland for Ipswich wonderkid WickhamClichy wants Liverpool move despite Roma's bumper offer for Arsenal defender LIVERPOOL FC
