Liverpool's Ryan Babel facing Anfield exit
Published : 16 Apr 2009 11:51:19
Babel has had to make do with a peripheral role since joining Liverpool from Ajax for £11.5 million in July 2007. And with manager Rafa Benitez keen to bolster his squad when the summer transfer window opens, Babel's public complaint may hasten his exit. I have had three good talks with the trainer this season in which he indicated that I could not lose sight of the defensive aspect. "It is my feeling that I have strongly improved, but still I get no real chance." Babel has started just six Premier League games this season, making 17 appearances as substitute, and the final nail in the coffin came on Tuesday night when Benitez sent of Albert Rieira and David Ngog before him during the 4-4 thriller at Stamford Bridge. According to the Times, Tottenham have been linked with the Dutchman but manager Harry Redknapp is unwilling to pay the £10m asking price. Should Babel leave Liverpool, he could be just one of many fringe players being shown the door as Benitez looks to raise funds to bolster his squad. Andrea Dossea is another who is likely to depart, while Daniel Agger continues to be linked with moves to either AC Milan or Barcelona.
