Liverpool offered Suarez to Arsenal for Walcott plus 40 million pounds
Ahead of the biggest game this weekend, it has been revealed that Liverpool was prepared to let Luis Suarez join Arsenal last summer in exchange for Theo Walcott plus £40 million.
This sensational news, revealed by Goal.com, claims that Arsene Wenger rejected the deal, believing that Walcott’s future is at the Emirates Stadium. I wonder if he would accept the offer now based on the performances of the two players this season?
After an initial offer by Arsenal of £40 million plus £1 to trigger Suarez’s buy-out clause, Liverpool’s counter offer seems to have quashed the North Londoners interest, as opposed to enticing them into making a more lucrative offer.
With Walcott’s value at the time being around £25 million, the overall valuation of Liverpools Uruguayan superstar may have been a little bit underestimated by the Reds, especially if you look at his current form. However, a potential move to Arsenal for the 27-year-old striker is now all but over, as Wenger revealed on Thursday that he will not look to sign Suarez again in the future.
It can be expected that Suarez will be linked with a move away from Anfield again this summer. However, if a deal has any possibility of materializing, the interested club must be willing to pay up to £70 million for his signature. This is the figure that is believed to be attached to the new buy-out clause enforced by the Merseysiders after Suarez signed a new 4-and-a-half year in December.
One thing is for sure, Suarez will never be far from the headlines if he continues playing the way he has been this season. You can expect him to be the centre of attention once again on Saturday afternoon and here’s hoping he creates headlines for his on field performance against the Gunners.
