Liverpool need to move fast or they could lose Eriksen to Dortmund
Liverpool have been long time admirers of Danish international midfielder Christian Eriksen, and the rumours linking them with a bid for the Ajax player’s signature this summer have been on-going for a while. It now seems however that something pretty rapid is required if they are keen to secure his services, or as far as this Dane is concerned, they could have had their bacon.
As well as Liverpool, Premier Leagues outfits Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have also been keen admirers, but it is the Anfield outfit that seemed the front runners should the player move to England. The rise in the prestige of German football however has put a spanner in the works, as losing Champions’ league finalists Borussia Dortmund appear close to closing a deal. After losing Mario Goetze to their Wembley conquerors, Bayern Munich, Dortmund quickly resolved that Eriksen was the man required to fill the gap, and talk is that the process is well advanced with an agreement not far off for a five year deal.
Whilst it’s too early to say that Liverpool have missed out on the player, it seems fairly clear that precipitous action is required. With manager Brendan Rogers still smarting from the fact that last summer’s lacklustre efforts in the transfer market largely hamstrung his efforts this season he’ll be keen to avoid any repeat performance. If the club come have targeted the player, as has been widely reported, and come up short on the chase for his signature, it’s fair to say that Rogers will not be best pleased.
