Liverpool linked with Real Madrid star Isco

According to reports today, Liverpool are being linked with a possible move for Real Madrid's attacking midfielder Isco, to slot into Steven Gerrard’s former position, as the Reds captain takes up a more defensive role in a bid to prolong his playing career.

The 21-year-old Spanish star would cost Liverpool a club record fee of £37m, but would be a major coup for the clubs future prospects of lifting the Premier League.

Isco has struggled to hold down a regular first team place since his £25m move from Malaga last summer. He has still managed to pick up seven goals and four assists in nineteen league appearances, but has fallen out of favour recently with coach Carlo Ancelotti. The main issue for Isco having limited opportunities in the first team is due to the 4-3-3 formation, which puts him down the pecking order and a move away from the Santiago Bernabéu seems imminent.

Rodgers has expressed interest in Isco, but he can expect stiff competition (one again) for the Spanish stars signature.
