Liverpool hero Dirk Kuyt warns West Ham to get ready for resurgent Reds

Dirk Kuyt admits Liverpool's self-belief was shaken by their nightmare start to the season. The Reds suffered two defeats in their opening three matches of the season, leaving many to question their chances of winning their first League title for two decades. But Kuyt says Liverpool go to West Ham United on Saturday in high spirits after his single goal against Debrecen secured a third consecutive win. 'Everyone knows we had a bad start, losing against Spurs and Villa, so we had to try and get the confidence back, try to change things,' said the Holland striker. 'That's what we've done by winning three games in a row, and now we're looking forward to Saturday. 'Every game is difficult. Everyone knows the Premier League is a very hard league. But we have the quality to win these kinds of games on Saturday." The 2-1 opening day defeat at Tottenham Hotspur was compounded by the 3-1 humbling at home by Aston Villa, while title rivals Chelsea have started with five wins out of five and sit three points ahead of champions Manchester United at the top of the table. But Kuyt says his team have no need to look at the table just yet. 'At this stage we just have to look at ourselves, win our games and then in a couple of months see where we are,' said the 29-year-old. The goal in the Champions League Group E opener against Debrecen at Anfield made Kuyt the club's third highest scorer in Europe's premier club competition. He equalled Terry McDermott's 12 and trails Steven Gerrard on 28 and Ian Rush on 14. 'I didn't know about the record but I do now,' said the former Feyenoord man. 'What I would like to do is become more and more important for the team and try to do my best. 'I'm happy with my performances so far this season but I need to keep going. 'I'm feeling really confident. I've played the last two games in a slightly different position but for me that doesn't matter. I just want to be important for the team.'
