Liverpool FCs Lucas warns of Debrecen danger in Champions League tie
LUCAS insists Liverpool won't underestimate 'dangerous' Debrecen in tomorrow night's opening Champions League clash at Anfield. The Reds will start as strong favourites against the Hungarian champions who are making their first appearance in the group stage. But the Brazilian midfielder believes the minnows deserve respect from Rafa Benitez's side. 'If they are playing in the Champions League they will have some quality,' Lucas said. 'Maybe they will know more about us than we know about them so that makes them dangerous. Our staff will have been working hard to get some videos of them and we will be ready. 'The group is difficult and it's really important we start well at home. 'We have to try to keep the level we showed against Burnley.' A win will give us confidence for the games against Fiorentina and Lyon.' Lucas has enjoyed memorable Europeans runs during his first two seasons at Anfield. But having seen his hopes of glory twice dashed by Chelsea he is desperate to go further this time. 'It's the most important competition in the world and every player wants to play in it,' he said. 'We know how our supporters feel about watching these matches - it is very special. 'The defeat to Chelsea in the quarter-final last season still hurts and of course they beat us in the semis the year before. 'We have got so close to the final and hopefully this year we can finally get there. But at the moment we can't think about anything other than the teams in our group.'
