Liverpool favourites to land Dani Alves
The veteran defender who has won just about every accolade available in his role at Barca is, it seems, not part of Barcelona’s plans for the future. The 31-year-old Brazilian right-back has been strongly linked with Anfield and a move away from the Nou Camp.
According to a report in the Mirror and elsewhere it seems that Liverpool are favourites to lure the Brazilian defender from Barcelona to Liverpool despite interest from Inter Milan.
The players agent has played down talk of interest from Serie A side Inter who were thought to be favourites to snap up Alves for the coming season.
He told Calciomercato: "We have not had any contact with Inter. They are a big club but we don’t know anything about it. There has been no contact with them so for us it is difficult to comment."
Dani Alves has spent the bulk of his club career in Spain, moving from Brazilian club Bahia to Sevilla in 2002 where he made 175 appearances. Alves joined Barca in 2008 but nearly joined Liverpool in 2006. Sevilla did agree to sell the Brazilian to Liverpool but Liverpool were unable to match Sevilla’s then asking price of £8m. Alves was sold to Barca for 32.5m euros.
Alves never really made a regular impact on the international stage for Brazil who largely overlooked his talents. Despite this he did earn 79 caps. Alves was famously the target of racism in April 2014 by Alves famously picked up the banana thrown at him by Villareal fans, peeled it and took a bite.
