Liverpool writer Jimmy McGovern: Hillsborough could happen again at a rock concert

THE Hillsborough football tragedy that killed 96 Liverpool fans could happen again at a rock concert, writer Jimmy McGovern warned today. The dramatist gave the stark warning on the day his acclaimed Hillsborough documentary, widely acknowledged for re-igniting the families fight for justice, was released on DVD for the first time. The BAFTA winning programme features actors Christopher Eccleston and Ricky Tomlinson playing the part of people who lost loves ones on April 15, 1989. Today Mr McGovern said he feared another disaster could take place at a big rock concert, not subject to the strict controls that now govern football. Mr McGovern told the ECHO: 'It's important the documentary gets a modern audience as a lot of people who go the match weren't even born at the time of Hillsborough. 'It should never be cost effective to take risks with public safety. 'If a disaster like this happens again it will be at a big rock concert where there is not an appropriate level of care.' Mr McGovern also slammed Justice Minister Jack Straw for his unwillingness to grant the grieving families justice.
