Liverpool's newly-promoted director of football Damien Comolli is confident there is now a structure in place to take the club forward.[LNB]The Frenchman was initially appointed as director of football strategy by new owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) in November to provide support to then manager Roy Hodgson.[LNB]Hodgson departed less than two months later after a string of poor results, but FSG have seen enough in Comolli to give him more responsibility, yesterday confirming his promotion as well as the elevation of commercial director Ian Ayre to managing director.[LNB] New beginnings: Director of Football Damien Comolli (left) in the stands with Liverpool owner John W Henry [LNB]And although Liverpool are some way off being contenders for the title they last won in 1990, Comolli believes progress can be made quickly under the American owners.[LNB]'I know there is still a lot of work to do, we're not where we want to be yet and it'll probably take a few months to do that, but I am totally confident.[LNB]'All the signs are very positive and I can see only green lights, no red lights.[LNB]'We've had some ups and downs and hopefully there will be a lot of ups in the future.[LNB]'With the backing of the owners and the way they are committed, I'm sure we'll have a bright future.[LNB]'I think we know exactly where we want to get to.[LNB]'It was a tough decision (to get rid of Hodgson) made by the club, but we have been looking forward since that and making other appointments with key individuals as we look to restructure the club.[LNB]'We are definitely looking forward to a bright future,' said the former Tottenham official.[LNB] New faces: Comolli has overseen the arrival of Luis Suarez (2nd from right) and Raul Meireles (far left)[LNB]Comolli has also insisted Fernando Torres' ?50m sale to Chelsea in January was a 'relief' that lifted a cloud at the club. [LNB]'When you have someone who doesn't want to be here and you swap him for people who want to be here the atmosphere changes,' he said. 'It's like there is a bright new sky with no cloud over our head.'[LNB]Comolli's role has been extended to oversee all football-related matters outside of first team training and selection.[LNB]'It covers pretty much all of the football side.[LNB]'Obviously I'm not getting involved in anything to do with team selection or training, that's the manager's remit.[LNB]'It's basically a day-to-day relationship with the manager and his coaching staff, it's also medical and sports science, performance analysis, player liaison, team travel, scouting and negotiating transfer contracts. A big part of it is the academy,' added the Frenchman.[LNB] Catch him if you can!
