Liverpool v West Ham - Match preview

19 April 2010 14:27

Liverpool will be without striker Fernando Torres for the visit of West Ham, who will miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery on Sunday. David Ngog is likely to take his place in the line-up.

Both Liverpool left backs, Emiliano Insua and Fabio Aurelio, are injured. Daniel Agger is likely to deputise.

Hammers skipper Scott Parker sits out tonight's game as he completes a two match ban, while Mark Noble looks set to make his 100th Premier League appearance for his hometown club.

Liverpool won the reverse fixture 3-2 at Upton Park in September and anything less than three points for Liverpool tonight will make the already difficult task of grabbing fourth place almost impossible. The Reds currently lie in seventh place, eight points off Champions League qualification with just four games left to play.

Liverpool are unbeaten in nine at home and will fancy their chances of extending that run against a struggling West Ham team.

The relegation threatened Londoners have finally begun to put a small run of form together, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

After six defeats in a row, and much soul searching from manager Gianfranco Zola, the Hammers have steeled themselves and taken four points in their last two outings.

However, the odds don't look good for Zola and his team tonight. West Ham have not won away from home this season since the opening day, against Wolves, and the last time they won at Anfield was September 1963.
