Liverpool v Manchester United: Eric Cantona to return in spirit now United have 18 titles

Plans for inflatable beach-balls to be taken into the stadium, a reference to Sunderland’s inflatable-assisted goal against Liverpool last Saturday, have been ruled out with the Anfield club insisting that such objects will be confiscated. But the 3,500 travelling Manchester United fans are aiming torment the Merseysiders with Cantona masks as a response to a goading banner unfurled on The Kop during the 3-3 Premier League draw in 1994. Having ended their 26-year wait for the league title at the end of the previous campaign, United travelled to Anfield with eight championships on their record – still ten behind Liverpool’s all-time record figure of 18. The Liverpool banner read, ‘Au Revoir Cantona and Man United...Come back when you’ve won 18!’ With United winning their 18th league title last season, however, fans are now being urged to download the Cantona masks prior to Sunday’s game. Liverpool have confirmed, though, that fans will be searched before entering Anfield in order to prevent unauthorised inflatables being taken into the ground. A Liverpool FC spokesman said: "Any inflatable items will be confiscated at the point of search, whether inside or outside the stadium."
