Liverpool top the Premier League of Google searches

The Merseysiders were searched for a whopping 16 million times in the last month alone, three million more than the next-highest club, Chelsea. Liverpool have been at the centre of a number of top football news stories this month, and that is sure to have boosted this total. Xabi Alonso's transfer to Real Madrid dominated the early part of August, while Steven Gerrard's court case, and the signing of Alberto Aquilani were also big news. Rafa Benitez was edged out once again by Sir Alex Ferguson, with the Manchester United boss the most searched for manager. Cheryl Cole, the girlfriend of Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole, was the top-searched WAG, ahead of Victoria Beckham and Coleen Rooney. But Arsenal can lay claim to being the hottest ticket in town - more users searched for Emirates tickets than any other club. However, Burnley may argue Turf Moor is really the place to be, because Google registered a 5,000 per cent increase in searches for season tickets for the Clarets. In a report published in The Sun, the Google Fantasy XI based on most searches for players in their positions was: Goalkeeper: David James Right Back: Glen Johnson Left Back: Ashley Cole Centre Back: John Terry Centre Back: Rio Ferdinand Attacking Midfield: Steven Gerrard Defensive Midfield: Javier Mascherano Left Wing: Ryan Giggs Right Wing: Theo Walcott Centre Forward: Fernando Torres Centre Forward: Wayne Rooney
