Liverpool to swoop on Sami Khedira as Gerrard replacement: Reports

News this morning suggests that Liverpool are keen on soon to be free agent Sami Khedira as replacement to outgoing Reds legend Steven Gerrard.

The big 6’2” player is know for his flawless aerial ability, box-to-box style and powerful mid-range shooting ability - all qualities you associate with Steven Gerrard.

Khedira joined Real Madrid in 2010 and has gone on to make 160 appearances and scored 9 goals for the Spanish giants. The player has had much fewer opportunities in the last couple of seasons, partly due to injury and has been heavily linked with a move away last Summer and in January.

Given the situation regarding his expiring contract, clubs were clearly willing to wait for the opportunity to get the player without a transfer fee and with a pre-contract.

SportBild claim that Liverpool are lining up the player to fill the void that will be left by Gerrard’s departure. Khedira is probably the biggest name that has the freedom to sign a pre-contract agreement immediately. The Reds will be keen to wrap up a pre-contract with a raft of clubs likely to be interested in a free transfer of a World Cup winning player with still five years left at the top.

The report suggests that Bayern Munch, Chelsea and Manchester United are also interested in the vastly experienced 27-year-old player.
