Even though the summer Transfer window has Liverpool are still making moved in the market, this time in the shape of free agent Victor Valdes.

The 32-year-old star is without a club as he left Barcelona after his contact expired during the summer but is currently recovering from the torn cruciate ligament that cost him a World Cup place and a Bosman move to Monaco.

The Mirror amongst other sources is running the story that Brendan Rodgers wants competition for the Goal Keepers position and sees Valdes as the perfect option to battle it out against current first choice keeper Simon Mignolet.

Valdes would undoubtedly bring much needed European experience to the Reds as they embark on a new chapter in the Champions League for the first time in five seasons.

Liverpool are prepared to wait until October before putting Valdes through stringent medical tests to prove he has fully recovered.

Bleacher Report tweeted yesterday that "Victor Valdes is set to join Liverpool, and @GuillemBalague says it's a great deal for both"
