The midfielder, who currently plys his trade for Buenos Aires side Racing Club, scored a hat-trick earlier this month in the 3-1 win over Club Atletico San Martin.
According to The Mirror, the Merseysiders have sent scouts to watch Vietto but will face stiff competition from Juventus for his signature.
Vietto is believed to be valued at around £4m by Racing.
