Liverpool to help bid for world peace

Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and company are set to head to Spain for this summer's Peace Cup, taking on the globe's stellar clubs including Real Madrid, Lyon, Porto and Celtic or Rangers.[LNB]The potential pot will tempt Liverpool, touching £2 million, plus chunky appearance fees for the July 24-Aug 2 jamboree, yet an even greater prize is on offer. [LNB]Using proceeds from the TV-pleasing presence of Liverpool, Peace Cup leaders plan to build pitches that straddle notorious divides. [LNB]One stadium is proposed between Palestinian territories and Israel and another across the Demilitarised Zone between North and South Korea. [LNB]Political symbolism, as well as sporting significance, will be contained in each ground: teams will enter through gates in their own domain before meeting in the middle. [LNB]Peace Cup organisers must have a real sense of mischief to choose Liverpool to extol the attractions of sharing a stadium in disputed territory with bitter rivals. [LNB]
