Liverpool fans will have woken up with the news that their is the prospect of them signing a world-class striker with Bayern Munich failing to make progress with a contract extension for Robert Lewandowski. The headline in the Mirror report reads that the player 'could leave Bayern Munich his summer.

The 27-year-old Polish international has continued to be one of Europe's finest strikers, scoring an incredible 36 goals in 39 games and has been linked with Real Madrid or joining one of his previous managers at Manchester City or Liverpool.

Lewandowski has a healthy three years left to run on his current contract and Karl-Heinz Rummenige isn't concerned and has no interest in being drawn into public discussion on the matter.

"I won't comment on contracts because we are not joining the agent's game," Rummenigge said last week. "Looking at the contract lengths, we can look to the future relaxed."

Lewandowski joined Munich in 2014 from Borussia Dortmund, scoring 61 goals in 89 appearances, adding to his 103 goals for Dortmund.

Munich face Benfica in the Champions League for the first leg of their quarter-final this evening and there are likely to be further question marks over the future of their star.
