Liverpool target Victor Valdes staying put say Barcelona

Liverpool could be forced to wait in their attempts to sign Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes after the Spanish giants revealed there are no plans for him to leave the club.

Valdes has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield at the end of the season as speculation continues to surround the long-term future of Pepe Reina.

Reina's form has deteriorated over the last two years and Arsenal have been credited with an interest in the goalkeeper.

The Barcelona keeper only has 12 months left on his current deal at the end of the season and talks are believed to have stalled on a new deal.

But Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta insists Valdes has not signalled to the club that he wants to leave and they still hope to strike an agreement for him to stay at the Nou Camp.

Zubizarreta said:

"He has not said to us that he would like to go. The negotiations are not broadcasted and have not been settled yet.

"We have spoken about general issues. It is hard to find another goalkeeper for Barcelona while we still have Victor."
