Rogers is keen to add some depth to his squad with Brazilian keeper Doni thought to be heading back to his native country after a poor first season at Anfield and sees the youngster as another key member of his Liverpool rebuilding project, he also fits in with FSG's policy of buying young players.
Butland impressed many with his displays during the Olympics and is seen as direct competition for current England goalkeepr Joe Hart in the coming years.
