With the new season fast approaching Liverpool fans are obviously happy with the currently activity in the summer transfer window, but one alarmingly obvious area has yet to be filled, the void left by one Luis Suarez.

According to The Independent, Brendan Rodgers is planning a €23m bid for Argentina striker Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Italian source Tuttosport are also backing this claim.

Lavezzi's is very much a Brendan Rodgers type of player as he offers versatility, (can play as striker or out wide).

Good solid hard worker on the field, and is good defensively and offers pace, which is always a plus for any attacking player.

In June, Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella hailed Lavezzi's positive influence on the national team:

"Players like Lavezzi are always very positive, because they keep players happy. They keep a nice atmosphere in the group. And Lavezzi is a great player. He hasn't been in the starting line-up but he never makes negative comments, he never makes faces, and he is always supporting the team."

One downside to this is his age and at 29, €23m is a lot of money to pay for a player who is due to enter his 30's.

Since moving to PSG the Argentinian has chipped in 23 goals and 14 assists in 90 appearances which is a modest return considering he’s up against Cavani and Zlatan for the central striking position.

His injury record also speaks for itself 278 appearances in the last 7 years, averaging 40 games a season and he’s only missed only 12 games through injury in the last 10 years.
