Liverpool set to hijack Chelsea bid for marquee signing

Liverpool it seems have been busy hovering free-agents but it seems they could be saving their transfer kitty for a marquee striker to play alongside Sturridge with the possibility of Sterling being shipped off.

Reports in the Daily Star suggest that Liverpool are seriously interested in Radamel Falcao and are attempting to hijack Chelsea’s plans to sign the Manchester United loan flop. The 29-year-old striker who scored with frightening regularity in Europe was unable to replicate that success for United, scoring just 4 goals in 29 appearances.

It could be argued that Falcao was not deployed at United in a position that focused on his strengths and too often the player was collecting the ball in deep positions which is something that Jose Mourinho was keen to highlight. The Premier League has not seen the Radamal Falcao that terrorized the defences of Portugal, Spain and France.

“It really hurts me that people in England believe that Falcao is the guy they saw at Manchester United,”

“He’s a player I know, one that I’ve followed since Atletico Madrid and if I can help Falcao arrive at his level I will do it.” Mourinho told reporters earlier this week.

The Daily Star suggest that the player who has never played in the Champions League but has won the Europa League with two different clubs is also wanted by Brendan Rodgers. It will be interesting to see which club prevails in this tussle and if Brendan Rodgers can sell Anfield as a fitting venue for the striker to prove himself with regular football and a position on the pitch which leans towards his strengths rather than weaknesses.

Several Newspapers such as the Mirror have already stated that the player is willing to take a pay-cut to help a move happen but Monaco are insisting on a £35m fee.
