Liverpool repeat their goalscoring feat of 1979 but time is running out for the title

Liverpool may have run out of games to win their 19th Premier League title, but Rafa Benitez's side have had no problem finding the back of the net in recent weeks.  The Reds scored three goals for the fifth consecutive game in their win over Newcastle on Sunday - the first time the club has achieved this feat since 1979. Liverpool did manage five emphatic league wins in a row in 1987, but a 1-1 draw with Blackburn in the second round of the League Cup interrupted the flow of Kenny Dalglish's side. Thirty years ago it was Ray Kennedy, Terry McDermott, Alan Hansen,David Johnson, Kenny Dalglish and Jimmy Case who scored for BobPaisley's Liverpool. In 2009 the cast has a more continental (and less Scottish) feel, with Dirk Kuyt, Xabi Alonso, Yossi Benayoun, Leiva Lucas, FernandoTorres, Fabio Aurelio, Daniel Agger and David Ngog getting the goalsfor their Spanish manager. And that's not the only difference. In 1979 Liverpool were thedefending champions and went on to retain their title in 1980,finishing the season two points clear of Manchester United.
