Liverpool Reject Man City Sterling Bid

A £25 million bid for Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling from Manchester City has been rejected, Sky Sports sources understand.

The bid also included an extra £5 million in add-ons but Liverpool reportedly value the 20 year old at £50 million and will not sell him for less.

Sterling has only two years remaining on his contract at the Merseyside club and has publicly said that he won’t be signing a contract extension, with his representative, Aidy Ward, saying that he wouldn't stay at Liverpool for £900,000 per week.

The England international was booed by some sections of fans when he played against the Republic of Ireland in a friendly on Sunday but Liverpool manager Brendan Roger expects Sterling to stay at Liverpool for the remaining two years of his contract.

Sterling has also been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Bayern Munich but Manchester City are the bookies favourite to land him with the Citizens looking to boost the number of home grown players in their squad in order to meet Champions League regulations.

The Sky Blues chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, has commented that he wants to bring in a “high quality” signing this summer, saying "We want a squad that is able and has the capability and quality to win the Premier League, compete and win the Champions League, compete and be able to go all the way in two cup competitions in England.

"I think you will see some changes. You will see some players who have served us well and maybe it is time for them to move to their next challenge, and you will see us in the market bringing high-quality individuals that fit within what we are aspiring to coming in this summer,” he said.

"I can assure you the squad will be stronger, the team will be more competitive. I am both confident and excited about what is coming next year."

Sterling scored eight times and assisted this teammates a further eight times last season and was ranked this week as the sixth most valuable player in Europe in study by the Football Observatory, a research group in the International Centre for Sports Studies, and is the highest ranking English the player. The next highest ranking Englishman in Tottenham striker Harry Kane at 15th.
