A number of clubs are the flies in the ointment for Borussia Dortmund as the German International rejected the deal put before him yesterday with the potential for more money elsewhere.
Chief among the clubs believed to want the player are Liverpool who also clearly have some spending power after the departure of Luis Suarez. Other teams linked include Spanish, German and English heavyweights Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United but it is thought according to reports in the Mirror and elsewhere that Liverpool lead the pack in luring the midfielder to the Premier League.
The players current contract and release clause suggests a move to sign the player in this transfer window would be unlikely. The deal which runs until 2017 has a release clause set to drop to £27 million in 2015 reveals the report in the Mirror making a move in January much more likely and appealing to the likes of Liverpool.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder joined Dortmund as a senior player in 2012 where he has gone on to make 62 appearances for the club and scored 30 goals. In 2013 Reus was ranked by Bloomberg as the fourth best footballer in Europe. In 2012 he was named as Footballer of the Year in Germany and also named in the UEFA Team of the Year of 2013. Reus was named as part of the Germany squad for the 2014 World Cup but an ankle injured sustained in a warm-up forced him to withdraw on the 6th June.
