Despite the hassle the club is currently going through with Luis Suarez, manager Brendan Rogers is determined to press on with his rebuilding plans whether the Uruguayan stays or not. Reports today suggest the club is preparing to launch a major bid for one of the key players in the successful Ukranian team Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The 24 year old midfielder notched a record 25 goals last season as Shaktar Donetsk secured the league title for the third successive time. The Armenian has 176 full caps and two golas for the full team, after a highly successful time with the U21 side during which he netted 9 in 13 games. It’s the very sort of return that Rogers is looking for to add firepower to his Reds’ squad.

The turmoil over Suarez continues apace with now Atletico Madrid, as well as Real joining in the interest. Although the club have issued the regulation “not for sale at any price” comment, insiders suggest that they are resigned to losing him, and plans are now in place to resolve the problems that his departure would inevitably cause. The signing of Mkhitaryan, could be the first step in that plan.
