Liverpool 'ready' to sign Mario Mandzukic

Reports this morning suggest that Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic is ready to sign for Liverpool in the summer. The player has allegedly fallen out with Diego Simeone, making a transfer away a real possibility.

The report in the Metro says that Liverpool will face competition for his signature from Arsenal but their sources in Spain suggests that the player is a real favourite of Brendan Rodgers with the expectation that the sale of Mario Balotelli would fund the deal.

Mandzukic has been in good form since joining Atletico in 2014, scoring 20 goals in all competitions. The experienced 28-year-old Croatian has moved around a number of clubs since his senior debut at Marsonia, notably Dinamo Zagreb, Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich.

As a player he is noted for his incredible fitness and physical attributes that make him often the instigator of a press and counter-attack rather than any sophisticated technical ability.

Mandzukic has 57 international caps for Croatia and has scored 17 times since his debut in 2007.
