With Jamie Carragher due to retire at the end of the season after a glittering career with Liverpool the rumor mill has been going into overtime with who his successor could be.

Alot of talk has been of Ashley Williams of Swansea being the man to fill his boots at the heart of the reds defence, but expect another addition to the defensive line-up.

Martin Skrtel has been way off form this season and talk of his former club Zenit St. Petersburg aswell as mega rich Anzhi Makhachkala both interested in the taking the player back to Russia and with the more than likely departure of Sebastian Coates, Liverpool will almost certainly be in the hunt for another centre back.

Liverpool scouts have been scouring players from all over the place to unearth possible gems and add this name to the list of potential targets ..... Toby Alderweireld of Ajax and Belgium.

Brendan Rodgers has been very impressed with the 24-year-old with Liverpool being regular visitors to Amsterdam.

The price tag according to multiple sources (Dailymail, Transfermarkt, De Telegraf, Voetball) is said to be between £7-£9million for a player who has been capped 23 times by his country and has played for Ajax since 2008 after joining them from Beerschot.

Both Everton and Newcastle are thought to be interested in the defender, although it is said that the player would prefer a move to Liverpool.
