After completing the signing of Danny Ings from Burnley, Liverpool are set to continue their summer spending as they look to beat Premier League rivals Arsenal to the signing of Tottenham's highly-rated midfield youngster Nabil Bentaleb.

The Spurs midfielder is reportedly being tracked by a number of top European clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and bitter rivals Arsenal. However the Sun (subscription required) have today linked Liverpool with a move for the Algerian international, who has been particularly vocal about his protracted contract talks with the White Hart Lane club in an interview with The Telegraph last week:

“I give everything on the pitch,” he said.

“I've been working really hard and it’s normal for me to want to get rewarded. We've been negotiating for nearly nine months now, since September, and it’s getting really long and, of course, I’m getting a little bit tired of it.”

The Sun suggest that Liverpool are best placed to sign the 20-year-old and have opened talks with Tottenham over a £10million move to Merseyside, with Brendan Rodgers 'desperate' to sign the player who he feels would be the perfect midfield partner to recent acquisition James Milner.

Bentaleb broke into the Tottenham starting XI under Tim Sherwood last season and has gone on to form an impressive midfield partnership with Ryan Mason.
