Liverpool performing transfer window blunder once again

Liverpool Manager Brendan Rodgers seems to be making a habit of having bad Transfer Windows and then trying fruitlessly to make up for it during the season. He seems to have unrelenting faith in average players, almost as if he is running a development club.

Below is a look at some of the business Liverpool have done so far:

Nathaniel Clyne – The former Southampton player had a relatively good season with what was a very solid back four for the Saints, even earning an England call-up in the process. However, he is nowhere near what the top teams had in the same position, with Pablo Zabaleta and Branislav Ivanovic having much better seasons in comparison. How does Rodgers expect to challenge at the top without the quality like that at the top?

Danny Ings – He may have had a better season than Liverpool’s strikers but the former Burnley ace is certainly not a step-up in quality from what Liverpool already has. If Liverpool were so keen to get a striker from a relegation threatened team, Charlie Austin was available. He had a more prolific season and looks better fitting to a big side.

James Milner – Signing rejects from fellow contenders rarely works out well especially if all you will get is experience and very little flair. When other teams are looking to Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal, Rodgers sees Milner. He may have come for free but he fills a squad place that a better individual could have taken.

Roberto Firmino – Just like Emre Can and Lazar Markovich, he comes with a growing reputation but is he the kind of player Liverpool actually need. With Sterling and Lallana still at Anfield, where does Firmino play? Can the Reds afford to have so many playmakers in the starting line-up in place of steel and grit?

It remains to be seen whether Rodgers will go for a marquee signing but until then, fans will be wondering if he really is the man for Liverpool Football Club.
