Liverpool on the verge of sealing Barcelona stars signature?

Liverpool could be on the verge of another major transfer coup this January as Brendan Rodgers looks to Barcelona starlet Martin Montoya to solve the hole thats been left by a sidelined Jose Enrique and and under performing Aly Cissokho.

Montoya can play on either flank, but one has to think that the signing of a right back would see Glen Johnson swap to the left back position, which he's played and impressed on several occasions since Brendan Rodgers took over the hot seat at Anfield.

The Guardian broke the story earlier on that the Reds have opened talks with Barca over the transfer of the defender when the transfer window opens in January.

Montoya has seen limited chances to shine at the Camp Nou this season because of the ever brilliant Dani Alves, although recently he has been gifted the opportunity to play due to the injuries of Jordi Alba and Adriano.

According to the Guardian Liverpool MD Ian Ayre, met Barcelona officials in Catalunya on Thursday to discuss a possible transfer fee.

He was pictured a few hours before the story broke in Barcelona airport along with Jamie Carragher (see below).
