Liverpool are pressing ahead with their move for Kenwyne Jones and hope to have him signed to face Tottenham on Wednesday.

Sportsmail exclusively revealed the Sunderland striker was destined for Anfield in a loan deal and talks were ongoing on Monday night.

The Trinidad and Tobago international is desperate for the deal to go through and Sunderland would look to recoup their full valuation, of around £10m, for the 25-year-old in the summer.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce maintains an interest in Schalke striker Kevin Kuranyi and Paraguay international Salvador Cabanas.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez said: 'We will see if we can do something more in the transfer window. If we cannot we will stick together for the next challenge. We have a good team, a good squad and not as bad as people think.'
