Liverpool move ahead of United in race to sign Depay

After it seemed that Liverpool were unwilling to meet a £25m valuation according to a recent report we appear to back on with Anfield thought to be the preferred home for the PSV winger.

The news will come as a blow to United as it seemed for a while that a deal had more-or-less been agreed. Memphis Depay is seen as an ideal recruit for Louis van Gaal with the pair having worked together at the World Cup.

The information, which comes from a report in the Sunday People states that the club have been keeping in close contact with Depay and his agent, Alex Kroes, sending a delegation to PSV every month.

The winger/forward is rated at £20m and it appears that Liverpool are ready to make their move to snatch the player dubbed by Ronald Koeman “the biggest talent in the Netherlands” from under the noses of Manchester United.

The suggestion is that Liverpool scouts and their delegation have done more work than other clubs to win the player and his agent over and this is giving them the edge.

The 21-year-old has made 118 appearances for PSV in the Eredivisie, scoring 47 goals. Liverpool will likely face competition from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to secure the services of the player in the summer.
