Liverpool, Manchester United or City: who has the best double act?

At some point towards the end of last season I suggested that a striking combination of Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku could be Chelsea’s ‘dream team’.

Many of you agreed and personal record viewing figures suggested that I wasn’t a million miles off the mark.

I’ve still got no reason to change my view that Lukaku should have been retained by Jose Mourinho and given the chance to prove he can be Fernando’s favourite friend.

Don’t get me wrong, Torres has been outstanding in recent weeks – back to his best, some might say – but surely he needs someone up front to share the striking burden.

The same applies at Spurs, and Arsenal come to that. Roberto Soldado I rate at Spurs, but where’s his strike partner? Where’s Jermain Defoe?

And at the Emirates, I’d love to see someone giving the brilliant Olivier Giroud a helping hand up front – although his midfield maestros do provide plenty of back-up.

All of which brings us to the best three strike partnerships currently showing their true colours in the Premier League and beyond.

Stand up: Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge; form a queue Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Agredo, and Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney.

There is little to choose between the three deadly duos but, for me, the most natural combination is that of Anfield aces Suarez and Sturridge.

Not quite the original SAS (that privilege still stands with Shearer and Sutton), but Luis and Daniel look a perfect mix in terms of stature, style and scoring ability.

Not far behind are Aguero and Negredo who will get even better as the season goes on, and the same could be said of Van Persie and Rooney – once David Moyes invests trust in his golden guys.

It all comes down to a question of person choice. Who do you rate as the Premier’s deadliest double act and which individual do see you featuring in this month’s PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award?
