Liverpool make Uefa request

Uefa will try to facilitate Liverpool's request of not playing a potential Champions League quarter-final on the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough Stadium disaster.[LNB] Should Rafa Benitez's side progress at the expense of Real Madrid at the competition's last 16 stage, the second leg of the next round potentially falls on Wednesday 15th April.[LNB]The club are planning to hold a memorial service on that night for the 96 Liverpool fans who died after being crushed during an FA Cup semi-final in Sheffield in 1989.[LNB]Liverpool have made a request to European football's governing body to ensure any game involving the club would be played a day earlier on the Tuesday night.[LNB]"We have asked not to play on that date and that 14th April should be considered instead," a Liverpool spokesman told the club's official website.[LNB]"Uefa has replied acknowledging the significance of the date and confirming they will do their best to support our request if we progress." [LNB]
