Liverpool keeper Reina insists beach ball blunder ref should be Reds in face

Pepe Reina claims he wasn't the only one to take his eye off the ball at the weekend as the Liverpool goalkeeper slammed referee Mike Jones. Jones allowed Sunderland's winner to stand despite Darren Bent's shot taking a huge deflection off a beach ball which was thrown on to the pitch. The goal should have been disallowed and the game restarted with a drop ball - a rule Reds stopper Reina was not aware of at the time. He said: 'We didn't know the rule because otherwise we would have protested. Butthat's what makes the mistake of the ref even more grave. We didn'tknow it because it's not our job. As much as we can laugh about it now,on the day we had a torrid time. It was a very serious mistake of the referee.' Spaniard Reina added: 'It was such bad luck. I lost sight of the official ball and stayed on the red one. 'When he shot, it startled me and I went for the red ball instinctively as it was the closest to me and the other went past me. It is difficult enough trying to stop one ball so imagine trying to stop two. It all happened very quickly.  'This had never happened before in my life. I didn't know what to do. A lot of things were going through my head but I honestly thought that the goal would stand and no one was going to disallow it.'
