Valencia are struggling financially and desperately need to raise funds. The club's two most prized assets - David Villa and David Silva - have so far remained at the Mestalla, despite keen interest from the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona.[LNB]However, on Tuesday, Valencia director Fernando Gomez admitted the club may have to sell both, adding: "The club made a great effort to keep our players this summer but our economic situation remains very serious. [LNB]"It was a success to keep them, but there comes a point when you can't stand it any more."[LNB]Now it looks like Mata will be joining them through the exit door, with Rafa Benitez reportedly willing to pay up to £16.5m for the 21-year-old Spain international.[LNB]Mata's current contract is until 2012, but he is only on £10,000 a week and has turned down a new, improved deal.[LNB]Mata's agent, Juan Mata Snr, who is also the player's father, told the Sun: "We want Valencia to recognise the kid's true quality, and it's not only a matter of money."[LNB]Mata Jnr said: "This matter is all down to the club and my agent. Benitez is a big coach but I just want to concentrate on my game without any distractions."[LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB]
