Liverpool hijack Chelsea move for Brazilian forward

For much of the January transfer window, and the months preceding it, it had looked like Alex Teixeira would inevitably make a move to Stamford Bridge but it has emerged that Anfield could be his true destination.

The twist comes as a bit of a surprise as the player himself has on more than one occasion talked up a move to Chelsea, especially as he already has some friends there. Complications seemed to surface midweek last week as reports were saying Shakhtar Donetsk are for some reason reluctant to sell to Chelsea. Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink seemed to confirm the turn of events by asserting that Chelsea would not be making any transfers in this window, a stance which is rather baffling considering their position in the table and the lacklustre form delivered by most in the first team.

Liverpool have taken the opportunity by tabling a £23 million bid which the Ukrainian side has yet to officially respond to. Teixeira seems to be angling for a move away from Shakhtar and even went as far as to like Liverpool fans' posts of him in Liverpool kit on Instagram. He also spoke very strongly about leaving with football outlet Globo, "I would like to move in this transfer window and have told them [Shakhtar] that. They have received a very good offer and they are working on a solution. But if I don’t go now then I will leave in the summer.

After six years in Europe and with Shakhtar we are ready to move and I have spoken to my wife and daughter.

It is my desire to move to a big league and I know that the English league is very strong."

If the move is to happen, it would be a great addition for an imbalanced Liverpool side and a bad one to lose for Chelsea.
