Liverpool made a low-key start to life under Roy Hodgson, with new signing Joe Cole looking on from the sidelines as his team-mates drew 0-0 in tonight's friendly with Grasshoppers in Zurich.

A youthful Reds side created little in the way of clear scoring opportunities, with Alberto Aquilani's free-kick palmed away by Ivan Benito in their best effort while striker David Ngog wasted two good chances.

At the other end, Nzuzi Bundebele Toko was denied by a combination of Diego Cavalieri and Stephen Darby - though Toko also went closest to a goal for Liverpool, Benito sparing him the indignity of an own goal.

Samir Nasri scored a superb brace as Arsenal strolled to a 3-0 win over Austrian side Sturm Graz.

The France midfielder lashed home a superb angled drive after linking up with new signing Marouane Chamakh and the Morocco striker then saw a header cleared off the line by Thomas Burgstaller before Nasri doubled the lead with a fine curling free-kick.

Henri Lansbury, one of seven half-time Gunners substitutes, made it 3-0 after good work from Jay Emmanuel-Thomas before Theo Walcott and captain Thomas Vermaelen both missed good chances to extend the margin of victory further.

Garry O'Connor was Birmingham's match-winner for the second match in succession on their tour of the Far East.

The Scottish striker, whose goal saw off a Hong Kong XI on Sunday, scored the only goal eight minutes from time against Beijing Guoan after Cameron Jerome saw his shot parried and then squared the rebound to his strike partner.
