Liverpool given boost in chase for classy defender

After a superb performance against Stoke on Sunday there is more good news for Reds fans with the admission from Mats Hummels that he has a big decision to make regarding his future. The report which links the player to Premier League top sides including Liverpool suggests Klopp is a big factor whilst the player himself just wants to win trophies:

"I don't necessarily want to [leave], but I have to make a big decision. I have been back and forth a lot," Hummels told Bild.

"Age gives you a feeling that you don't have forever to win. I realise in every year I don't win a title, I'm closer to retiring."

The 27-year-old Borussia Dortmund captain and World Cup winner is considered one of the finest defenders in the world and will be used to the high-pressing game employed by his former manager. The Mirror thinks the relationship with Klopp could be key and he will have been impressed by the performances from his squad in the last few games. Liverpool could certainly could be more of a force next season and may even be in with a shout at European success this season.

Hummels joined Dortmund in 2009 and has gone on to make 297 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga side.

The German has been consistently linked with moves abroad with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Arsenal coming up the most in the rumour columns and is rated at £35-£40million.
