Injury blow: Dirk Kuyt Dirk Kuyt faces weeks on the sidelines after sustaining a shoulder injury while training with Holland. The 30-year-old forward was preparing for Holland's Euro 2012 qualifier against Finland.

Coach Bert van Marwijk claimed the player had 'strained and possibly tornligaments in his shoulder' after falling awkwardly at the ADO Den Haguestadium. He believes the injury could sideline the player for some time. 'I think he might be out for a few weeks,' he added.

Kuyt will travel to Merseyside for further assessment and treatment by Liverpool's medical staff at the club's Melwood training ground. The news will come as a blow for new manager Roy Hodgson, who is already short of attacking options.

It seems likely that Kuyt will at least miss Premier League matches at Birmingham, and at home to bitter rivals Manchester United, aswell as their Europa League clash with Steaua Bucharest.
